The Open Circle

In this age of impatient driving, and lack of compassion for fellow motorists on the road, there is still one thing that brings automobiles down to their knees, so to speak: emergency vehicles. Even the souped up civic that was swerving and passing everyone will succumb to the sirens of a fire truck, ambulance, or police car. All the motorists are so well behaved during this brief stretch of time, almost like a herd of sheep being rounded up.

It is also funny to notice drivers’ natural reflex to tap on their brakes when they suddenly and unexpectedly see a police car ahead on the road. The dazzling effect of staggered flashing of brake lights as each car reacts to the sudden police car is quite humorous, I find.

We are automotive sheep, trying to run free on our asphalt meadows.
