Somehow, a thin strip of fabric hanging from your neck is stylish. Of course, it is such an everyday thing to us, but when you stop and think about it, ties are one of the most peculiar pieces of clothing.

It’s tied around your neck very precisely, in one of various different types of knots, none which are trivial. In the end, you end up with hanging fabric down the middle of your torso.

So, the question is: Which came first, the tie or the collar?
